Reclaiming the Heart of Christianity: A Call for Compassion, Forgiveness, and Love in Today’s Church

Colossians 3:12 – As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, let your behavior be marked by compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

While a good number of Christian sects are doing their best in promoting the Kingdom principles, it is interesting that quite a few Christian churches, their leadership and members have become a barrier to the major values of Christianity namely, love, mercy, forgiveness, restoration, and repentance.

Many people suffering from emotional, physical, and spiritual problems run to the church for shelter, acceptance, encouragement, help and spiritual support but, sometimes these wounded individuals often discover that the church’s response sometimes only exacerbates their problems.

Instead of acceptance and help to be provided to these individuals, they are taken advantage of and given exclusivity from self-righteous persons from both Christian leaders and members.

Tragically, we are losing our commitment to biblical principles of Godly compassion, forgiveness, and love. The Christian Church which should be a spiritual hospital for soul care has instead become a dangerous battle zone.

If we are to find lasting freedom and spiritual healing on our Christian journey, we must and with all seriousness reclaim the Church from these modern-day Pharisees and hypocrites like the way Jesus reclaimed the Church from the Pharisees.

The church must return to being a community of God’s people, forgiven by his mercy and love and caring for those in need.

God help us all!
